The History of Aprons!!

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few. It was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the Chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When Company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and Kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the Garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the Fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When Dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ' old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Dog Letters to God

Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?

Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the ‘Chrysler Eagle’ the ‘ Chrysler Beagle’?

Dear God: If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

Dear God: We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID’s, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths . What do humans understand?

Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please .

Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good dog …

1. I will not eat the cat’s food before they eat it or after they throw it up.

2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc . , just because I like the way they smell.

3 . The litter box is not a cookie jar.

4 . The sofa is not a ‘face towel’.

5 . The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff

6 . I will not play tug-of-war with Dad’s underwear when he’s on the toilet.

7 . Sticking my nose into someone’s crotch is an unacceptable way of saying ‘hello’.

8 . I don’t need to suddenly stand straight up when I’m under the coffee table.

9 . I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house – not after.

10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.

11 . I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch.

12 . The cat is not a ’squeaky toy’ so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it’s usually not a good thing.

P . S . Dear God: When I get to Heaven, may I have my testicles back?

Quote for the day...

"I cannot believe that the inscrutable universe turns on an axis of suffering; surely the strange beauty of the world must somewhere rest on pure joy."

~~ Louise Bogan

Success and Happiness

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

Believe...

Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world.
So long as you can sweeten another's pain, life is not in vain.

- Helen Keller

Thought for the day...

Happiness comes first. Partners, abundance, and cool shoes come later.
Or at least this is how I'd line up my duckies.

Star Trek Wisdom

One of my most favorite quotes comes from the Star Trek Universe.  It reads:

"There is no problem in this universe so great that it cannot be solved with effective and skilled application of concentrated phaser fire."

If you think about it, a phaser is pure energy.  Per Quantum Physics, we know thoughts are pure energy. Therefore, our thoughts and their resulting actions, can solve anything.  We just have to "put our minds to it"!  Interesting, isn't it!

Legal Humor

The below dialogue is from a book entitled "Disorder in the American Courts". These are actual, verbatim exchanges that occurred between attorney and witness.

ATTORNEY: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?
WITNESS: Gucci sweats and Reeboks.
________________________________________________________

ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory?
WITNESS: I forget.
ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot?
________________________________________________________

ATTORNEY: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo?
WITNESS: We both do.
ATTORNEY: Voodoo?
WITNESS: We do.
ATTORNEY: You do?
WITNESS: Yes, voodoo.
________________________________________________________

ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.
________________________________________________________

Oh how I would have loved to have been present for these exchanges!! LOL
Your not suppose to talk or make noise in a courtroom. I can just see the people trying hard not to bust a gut by not laughing. Way funny!!!! I will post more later, so be on the lookout!!

Angels Explained by Children

I only know the names of two angels, Hark and Harold.
-Gregory, 5

Everybody's got it all wrong. Angels don't wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on it
-Olive, 9

It's not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to Heaven, and then there's still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes.
-Matthew, 9

Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else.

My Mom... My Inspiration

I am sad today, Mother's Day, since my mom passed away a week ago on May 1, 2009.  She was a brave, strong woman who has dealt with polio and being in a wheelchair for the last 52 years.  She never let her disability get in the way of what she wanted.  She always found a way to accomplish any task she set her mind to.  Even in her passing, she was fully aware and awake and made the decision, on her own, without reservation or tears, to have herself removed from respiratory support, refuse any comforting oxygen, and passed, without complaint, to her eternal life.  I was privileged and honored to be with her for this decision and her passing.  I will always look up to her as my hero and inspiration throughout my life and hope that I can meet my struggles head on as she did.
FLY FREELY with the angels, mom, and know that you are greatly missed and loved!!!

Your loving daughter,  Elaine L.

Thought for the day.....

The person who thinks abundance, speaks abundance, and acts abundantly, no matter how much they lack while performing such demonstrations, they are "given" an outpouring of the "stuff," far in excess of what they could ever spend.

Springtime Prayer

For flowers that bloom about our feet,
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet,
For song of bird, and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

For blue of stream and blue of sky,
For pleasant shade of branches high,
For fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

Join Us...a poem

On the surface of the world right now there is
war and violence and things seem dark.
But calmly and quietly, at the same time,
something else is happening underground
An inner revolution is taking place
and certain individuals are being called to a higher light.
It is a silent revolution.
From the inside out. From the ground up.
This is a Global operation.
A Spiritual Conspiracy.
There are sleeper cells in every nation on the planet.
You wont see us on the T.V.
You wont read about us in the newspaper
You wont hear about us on the radio
We dont seek any glory
We dont wear any uniform
We come in all shapes and sizes, colors and styles
Most of us work anonymously
We are quietly working behind the scenes
in every country and culture of the world
Cities big and small, mountains and valleys,
in farms and villages, tribes and remote islands
You could pass by one of us on the street
and not even notice
We go undercover
We remain behind the scenes
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit
But simply that the work gets done
Occasionally we spot each other in the street
We give a quiet nod and continue on our way
During the day many of us pretend we have normal jobs
But behind the false storefront at night
is where the real work takes a place
Some call us the Conscious Army
We are slowly creating a new world
with the power of our minds and hearts
We follow, with passion and joy
Our orders come from from the Central Spiritual Intelligence
We are dropping soft, secret love bombs when no one is looking
Poems ~ Hugs ~ Music ~ Photography ~ Movies ~ Kind words ~
Smiles ~ Meditation and prayer ~ Dance ~ Social activism ~ Websites
Blogs ~ Random acts of kindness...
We each express ourselves in our own unique ways
with our own unique gifts and talents
Be the change you choose to see in the world
That is the motto that fills our hearts
We know it is the only way real transformation takes place
We know that quietly and humbly we have the
power of all the oceans combined
Our work is slow and meticulous
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance
And yet with it entire tectonic plates
shall be moved in the centuries to come
Love is the new religion of the 21st century
You dont have to be a highly educated person
Or have any exceptional knowledge to understand it
It comes from the intelligence of the heart
Embedded in the timeless evolutionary pulse of all human beings
Be the change you choose to see in the world
Nobody else can do it for you
We are now recruiting
Perhaps you will join us
Or already have.
All are welcome
The door is open.

Susan Boyle - Truly Inspired Performance

I still have tears in my eyes as I write this post. The best way to understand why I am making this post is to watch the video. Here is the link:

Undeniably, the most moving and inspirational thing I have witnessed in years! It just goes to show, we cannot judge our fellow man or woman by the way they look or act!!

Welcome....About this Blog....How to Use the Blog

In this day of social networking, I thought one morning, why not create a blog with positive, inspiring, creative, thoughtful, witty, (you get the idea) content. We need a positive place to go to take a break from everyday life; to learn how others are making a difference in the world; to create our own thoughts and ideas and gain inspiration for what we would like to do to contribute to others and even to ourselves.

I thought through a blog, I, as well as other team authors, and you, as commentators, could contribute to the content. We can all share our own thoughts, insights, experiences and creative endeavors so everyone can benefit.

At this time, the world needs every positive, loving thought and deed we can create to help this world, our Earth, to be a little better place to live for everyone.

I welcome you to join me in this new adventure of creativeness, community, and positive thoughts. Please become a follower and commentator and make your own contributions.

There are a few ground rules I would like to establish:
1- This is a positive site! Therefore all negative comments, judgements, and criticisms are discouraged.
2- No vulgar, pornographic, or adult content will be acceptable.
3- Please make your entries as short and concise as reasonably possible.
4- Only post that which you are legally entitled to post. No copyright infringements please.

Suggested content to contribute:
1- Post a poem
2- Post a positive thought
3- Post a story of a kind or thoughtful act or deed you did or observed
4- Post a joke, funny saying or story
5- Post a photo
6- And if you want to contribute but can't think of anything to say, then complete this sentence:
"Make a beautiful Earth by............."

If you have any suggestions on how to improve this site, please let me know.

I look forward to our joint venture in making the Earth and our lives a little more beautiful a bit at a time!!!!!!
